ABOUT SING LIT THURSDAYS
Every Thursday, we want to bring a piece of Singapore Literature to you. Our free programmes on Thursdays include writing nights where you can write alongside other people in the community, writing workshops facilitated by local writers, and lively discussions about your favourite poems and books. We believe that every Thursday should be a day people come out for Sing Lit in all of its incarnations, and with four regular programmes filling each Thursday of the month, you can engage with local literature through writing, reading, learning, responding or performing. We promise there’ll be something for everyone. See you on Thursday!
CURRENT OFFERINGS
After Hours
First Thursday of every month, 7.30PM-9.30PM
We’re opening the SLS doors after hours to give you time and space to do what writers do best: write. We’ll have snacks, silent writing time, and prompts to get you started! Bring your drafts, your empty notebooks, and some friends. Everyone is welcome, let’s get cosy!
Beachcombing with Tse Hao Guang
Second Thursday of every month (from August 2026)
Join poet and editor Tse Hao Guang in this generative workshop series inspired by books, pictures and maps featuring Singapore's coasts. Read and respond to your fellow participants' words; collect phrases and images and assemble them into something new. Do what the sea has always done - make it new. Experience a form of ecological writing, where creating a work of art is less about individual genius and introspection, and more about forming connections between others, human and non-human alike. With your consent, Hao Guang may add your words to a found poetry manuscript he is slowly collecting.
Poetry Glazers
Third Thursday of every month, 7.30PM-9.30PM
Poetry Glazers is a different kind of poetry event where people bring in poems they love written by someone else (Sing Lit preferred), read it to the group and glaze it! Think of it as spoken word, but with book club vibes. You can share a poem, or just show up to listen.
The Other Book Club
Fourth Thursday of every month (from July 2026)
The Other Book Club is an LGBTQIA+ book club that’s a safe space run by queer people, for folks in Singapore to read and discuss queer books (and movies sometimes)! We usually cover Singaporean and Asian authors to re-centre our narratives and the experience of being queer in Asia. We also believe in centering the "Other", which we understand as the various lives, particularly queer ones, made invisible. We seek to be one of many spaces that allow people to gather out of the confines of the nightclub or the bars.
