தூரத்து ஆள்
பிச்சினிக்காடு இளங்கோ

காற்று நுழைந்து
மூச்சுத் திணறுகிறது
உதிர்ந்த இலைகளாய்
என் இறந்த காலம்

இருப்பில் குறையும் 
நாட்களை எண்ணி
ஒரு சின்ன நெருடல்

வாலிபம்,
ஒரு தூரத்து ஆளாய்
என்னுடன்.

Air rushes in
My breath falters.
Like fallen leaves,
My past lies dead.

A small distress
At the thought
Of my diminishing days

But my youth
It stays with me
Like a man in the distance.

Marimuthu Arumugam Elango is the author of 23 books. He was an editor for Singai Chudar (Tamil Monthly) run by Tamil Representative Council of Singapore, editor-in-charge for Puthiya Nila (Tamil Monthly) and now editor of his own magazine called Makkal Manam. He has written poetry, drama, poetic drama, short stories, essays, poetic novel, epic novels, and songs. He is the founder of Kavimaalai Organisation in Singapore started in 2000.

சிங்கப்பூர் நிரந்தரவாசியான இவர், தமிழ்நாடு அரசு ஊழியராகவும், இந்திய அரசின் அனைத்திந்திய வானொலியிலும், சிங்கப்பூர் ஒலிபரப்புக்கழகத்திலும் பணியாற்றியவர். தமிழர் பேரவையின் திங்களிதழான சிங்கைச்சுடரிலும், புதிய நிலா இதழின் பொறுப்பாசிரியராகவும் பணியாற்றியவர். இப்பொழுது இவரே தொடங்கி , ஆசிரியராக இருந்து மக்கள் மனம் என்னும் திங்களிதழை நடத்துகிறார். கவிமாலையை இரண்டாயிரமாம் ஆண்டில் தொடங்கியவர். கவிதை,நாடகம்,சிறுகதை,கட்டுரை கவிதைப்புதினம், காப்பியம், இசைப்பாடல்கள் எழுதியிருக்கிறார். 23 நூல்களின் ஆசிரியர்.

Poems on the MRT is an initiative by the National Arts Council, in partnership with SMRT and Stellar Ace. Produced by Sing Lit Station, a local literary non-profit organisation, this collaboration displays excerpts of Singapore poetry throughout SMRT’s train network, integrating local literature into the daily experience of commuters. Look out for poems in English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil in trains on the East-West, North-South and Circle Lines, as well as videos created by local artists and featuring local poets in stations and on trains.
