சிறகு
நூர்ஜஹான் சுலைமான்

கம்போங் குடிசைகளின்
கூரைப்பகுதியில்
தத்தித்தத்தி நடந்து
தாவிப் பறக்கும்
குயில்களின் சிறகுகள்
என்னைத் தீண்டிச் செல்லும்
ஒருநாள்
அடிபட்ட காயத்திற்கு
அம்மா இறகால் மருந்து தடவ
இதமாக இருந்தது
எழுந்து பார்த்தேன்
மருந்து சொட்டிய
இறகினைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டே
நகர்ந்து சென்றது புறா

Among the kampong huts,
koels flit and swoop
Their wings
Brushing against me
As they leap and fly.

One day,
Amma gently applied medicine
for my wound
with a feather
Oh! How soothing!

Relieved, I glanced up –
A pigeon fluttered by
Its eyes locked
On the used feather

Noorjehan Sulaiman was born in 1951 to Ahmedsha and Sheikh Meeral. Winning five silver prizes in the Tamil Murasu's "Sanga Palagai" Q&A section launched her writing career. She has written articles, short stories, serials, poems, and radio dramas. Since 2005, she has published seven books: short story collections, poetry anthologies, and novels.

1951ல் அகமதுஷா - ஷேக் மீறாள் தம்பதிகளுக்கு மூன்றாவது குழந்தையாகப் பிறந்தேன். தமிழ் படித்த தந்தை. நீலாம்பிகைத் தமிழ்ப்பாடசாலை, உமறுப்புலவர் உயர்நிலைப்பள்ளியில் ஆறாம் வகுப்பு வரை படித்தேன். தமிழ்முரசு 'சங்கப்பலகை' கேள்வி-பதிலில் ஐந்து வெள்ளிப் பரிசுகள் பெற்ற பெருமிதத்தில் எழுத்துப் பணியைத் தொடங்கினேன். கட்டுரைகள், சிறுகதைகள், தொடர்கதைகள், கவிதைகள், வானொலி நாடகங்கள் எழுதியுள்ளேன். 2005 முதல் ஏழு நூல்கள் வெளியிட்டுள்ளேன். பல பரிசுகள், விருதுகள், பாராட்டுகள் பெற்றுள்ளேன். உலகளாவிய நாவல் போட்டியில் ஆறுதல் பரிசும் கிடைத்தது.

Poems on the MRT is an initiative by the National Arts Council, in partnership with SMRT and Stellar Ace. Produced by Sing Lit Station, a local literary non-profit organisation, this collaboration displays excerpts of Singapore poetry throughout SMRT’s train network, integrating local literature into the daily experience of commuters. Look out for poems in English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil in trains on the East-West, North-South and Circle Lines, as well as videos created by local artists and featuring local poets in stations and on trains.
