SWF 2016 – PANEL: Does Singapore Need A Poet Laureate?

  • The Arts House 1 Old Parliament Lane Singapore, 179429 Singapore (map)

SINGAPORE WRITERS FESTIVAL 2016 presents – PANEL: Does Singapore Need A Poet Laureate?, featuring Yong Shu Hoong, Kirpal Singh, Amanda Chong. Festival Pass required for entry.

Is the time ripe for Singapore to appoint her own Poet Laureate? The title of ‘Poet Laureate’ is an honour traditionally conferred by the state. Poet Laureates such as Carol Ann Duffy (UK) and Juan Felipe Herrera (US) are associated with their countries’ literary canons and have composed works in honour of national occasions. Would appointing a Poet Laureate elevate the stature of Singapore poetry? This panel discusses.
