SWF 2016 – PANEL: The Personal / Public Dilemma of Singapore Poetry

  • The Arts House 1 Old Parliament Lane Singapore, 179429 Singapore (map)

SINGAPORE WRITERS FESTIVAL 2016 presents – PANEL: The Personal / Public Dilemma of Singapore Poetry, featuring Daryl Lim Wei Jie, Christine Chia, Grace Chia, Madeleine Lee. Festival Pass required for entry.

How can Singapore poetry be socially relevant yet introspective at the same time? The four poets showcased in this panel have attempted to respond to this question in their work. Christine Chia’s poetry draws a parallel between her parents’ failed marriage and the separation between Singapore and Malaysia; Grace Chia is known for her visceral verse about identity, feminism and imagination; Daryl Lim’s poetry engages with socio-historical events; and, finally, Madeleine Lee captures intimate moments while connecting to the larger workings of the world.
