பூக்களை நீரில் ஆழ்த்துதல்
நிலாகண்ணன்

நான் சிறிய தோட்டத்தில்
பூக்களைப் பயிரிடுபவன்
எனக்கு ஆரம்பக் காலத்தில் பூக்கள் நீரில் மிதப்பது
பிடித்திருந்தது.
நன்கு நினைவிலுள்ளது
ஓடிக்கடந்த பழைய நீரின் ஓடையது
பூக்களை இறக்கிவிட்டு
பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தேன்
பின் பூக்களை நிறுத்திவிட்டு
தானியங்களைப் புதைத்து நீர் தெளிக்களானேன்
பூமிக்கு வருகின்ற
முதலிரண்டு மீச்சிறு இலைகளுக்கு
சூரியன் தன் பிள்ளைக் கீற்றை
விளையாடத்தந்தது பிடித்திருந்தது.
முதற்கிளை பிரிகையில்
அங்கமரப்போகும்
பிறவா பறவைக்குப் பிறக்கப்போகும்
பறவாப் பறவையின்
உஷ்ணத்தை உணர்ந்தேன்.
முற்றி ஈரமண்ணில் என் கால்களைப்
புதைத்து அமர்ந்திருக்கிறேன்
இப்போதெல்லாம்
எனக்குப் பாதக் குளிர் பிடித்திருக்கிறது
இனி குளிர் உடலெங்கும் பரவலாம்
நாளை முழுவதும் புதைந்து மழைக்கு ஏங்குவேன்.
பிறகு பிறவா முயலுக்குக் கேரட்டாக முளைப்பேன்


Floating Flowers Downstream

I am someone
who grows flowers
in a small garden.
In the beginning,
I loved watching flowers
float on water.
I still remember it well -
a stream of ancient waters,
long since swept away.
I would drop flowers into it
and watch them drift away.

Soon, I stopped
sending flowers downstream.
Turned my attention
to planting seeds
and watering them.

And I loved
how the sun let its golden fingers
play gently,
on the first two tiny leaves
that rose from the earth.

When the first branch
cleft into two,
I felt the warmth of
a nestling of a bird,
yet to be born
roosting on the tree.

Now old, I sit with my feet
buried in damp sand.

These days,
I love the chill in my soles
and the cold -
It can spread
throughout my body.
The whole of tomorrow
I will lay buried
longing for the rain.
Then I will sprout as a carrot
for rabbits that are yet
to be born.

நெடுஞ்சாலைவாழ் உயிரினம். சிங்கப்பூரில் எட்டு ஆண்டுகளாக ஓட்டுநராகப் பணியாற்றிவருகிறார். பியானோவின் நறும்புகை என்னும் கவிதைத் தொகுப்பினை 2021ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியிட்டார். இந்த நூலுக்கு தமுஎசவின் 2023ஆம் ஆண்டு விருதினைப் பெற்றுள்ளார்.

Poems on the MRT is an initiative by the National Arts Council, in partnership with SMRT and Stellar Ace. Produced by Sing Lit Station, a local literary non-profit organisation, this collaboration displays excerpts of Singapore poetry throughout SMRT’s train network, integrating local literature into the daily experience of commuters.
