SLS MASTERCLASS SERIES: "The Long Game: Writing a Novel" by Balli Kaur Jaswal (Session 2)

A novel demands sustained attention, focus and nerve. This intimate three-workshop course, facilitated by award-winning novelist Balli Kaur Jaswal, offers developing to advanced writers dedicated time and expert guidance to move their long-form fiction forward.

Through guided writing exercises, craft discussion and peer workshopping, participants explore the essential building blocks of the novel form: character, setting and conflict. Tailored feedback is provided throughout, with a follow-up feedback session one month after the course ends.

 

COURSE RUN DETAILS

27 June 2026, 10am–12pm: Session 1 - Character 
4 July 2026, 10am–12pm: Session 2 - Setting and Conflict
11 July 2026, 10am–1pm: Session 3 - Sharing and Feedback

Follow-up Feedback
Around one month after the final session, participants may submit an excerpt of up to 2,500 words for detailed written feedback from the facilitator.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR 
Balli Kaur Jaswal is the author of five novels, including the international bestseller Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows and Sugarbread, shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize. She has taught creative writing at Yale-NUS College and the University of Melbourne, and has twice mentored writers in Sing Lit Station's Manuscript Bootcamp.
