Shirley Geok-lin Lim, poet and professor (University of California, Santa Barbara), reads from her new collection, In Praise of Limes, which studies her life as an immigrant through an ecocritical lens. Her poetry examines one’s place in an interconnected world, and urges us to take action and confront social and ecological troubles. Join us as we explore what it means to bear witness to a troubled world, even as we remain hopeful, mindful, and aware of the wider natural world around us.
Shirley Geok-lin Lim is a poet, memoirist, anthologist, and scholar. She was the first woman and the first Asian to be awarded the British Commonwealth Poetry Prize, for her book Crossing the Peninsula.
