Performance poetry duo Tasfia and Jed will be presenting a selection of duo and solo poems from their stellar history as slam poets. Join them as they take you through an evening of rage, laughter and tears—exploring the intricacies of love, identity and navigating the world in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through metaphor and meaning, they attempt to find hope in these uncertain times.
Jed and Tasfia have performed together on several stages, including Spoke & Bird and the Causeway Exchange Slam where they represented Singapore in 2019.
Jedidiah Huang is a Singaporean spoken word poet. His attempts at processing his trauma have led him to be published in three anthologies, become a YODA Spoken Word Runner-Up (2018), win the Goh Sin Tub Creative Writing Competition (2019), become a finalist at the National Poetry Competition (2020) and represent Singapore at the Causeway Exchange Slam (2019). Huang is obsessed with stories and all the best ways to tell them.
Ummi Tasfia is a Singaporean-Bangladeshi poet. She is a former Australian Poetry Slam Victorian State Finalist (2017), YODA Spoken Word Champion (2018) and two-time representative of Singapore in the Causeway Exchange Slam (2018 & 2019). Tasfia is the convener of Wild Poets’ Den, Singapore’s first alcohol-free poetry open mic that includes sign-language interpretation and accessibility elements, organised in collaboration with Equal Dreams SG. Her poems have been published in the Fight Evil With Poetry anthology, Mahogany Journal, The Arctic Circle’s Artists & Climate Change blog and SingPoWriMo Issue #4. Tasfia moonlights as a sustainability innovation professional when not wearing her poet hat. She writes on home, immigration, love and empowerment.
