N.O.W. 2020: 24-Hour Playwriting Competition

The annual 24-Hour Playwriting Competition by T:>Works invites you to be part of its first digital edition. We may be physically apart but that will not distance us from imagining, dreaming and creating ‘in times of Corona’. Come play with us. Experiment with imaginative ways to harness digital platforms and devices as performance sites.

Begin with a great story. Then you craft a provocative and emotive experience for the audience, digitally. In 24 hours, you will create a 10-15 min performance piece (8-15 pages) that is presented on either one or multiple digital platforms (e.g. WhatsApp, Zoom, Social Media Platforms). It can also be a hybrid performance, written for both the ‘live’ as well as virtual stages.

You’ll base your great story on a theme which we’ll only announce at the start of the competition. Guiding you along the 24-hour ride are several stimuli to be included in your writing process. But we don’t want it to be a lonely enterprise. Our judges will be on hand as artist-facilitators. At selected intervals throughout the 24 hour process, you get to discuss your writing process with them, or bounce ideas when you face a writer’s block. And we’ve got nifty ideas to help you stay awake and on your writing track.
