Birds Migrant Theatre is a group comprising migrant workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Philippines. The group’s name is a reference to migratory birds, with members united by a shared interest in theatre and performance. In 2018, they presented a staged reading of Shoes by Wiwi Tri as part of Singapore Theatre Festival and performed an original play New Land at the Global Migrant Festival. In May 2019, they were invited to perform at the Today at Apple series. They operate under the guidance of Haresh Sharma, Resident Playwright of The Necessary Stage.

As part of Red Dot August, Birds Migrant Theatre presents readings of two new short plays written by migrants living in Singapore. These play readings will feature the short plays Textbook and Sambal by Sugiarti Mustiarjo, and Yes Ma’am by Deni Apriyani, directed by Sindhura Kalidas and Deonn Yang. Each reading will be followed by a post-performance discussion with the artists and creative team.
