It can be argued that all writers produce works based on personal experiences, but what often distinguishes the finest works of creative non-fiction is their emergence not just from the familiar, but from the strange and the wondrous. In Mahabharata, when questioned by Yama at the Enchanted Pool, Yudhisthira, says: “Each day death strikes, and we live as though we were immortal. This is the greatest wonder.”
Drawing on works by various writers in different non-fiction genres, this workshop examines the use of the everyday, and the discovery of the marvellous, in our explorations of the “greatest wonder” that humans ever experience: the “Quick now, here, now, always” of daily life.
