EXHIBITION: I Know You're Upset

  • UltraSuperNew 13 Bussorah Street Singapore, 199434 Singapore (map)

I Know You're Upset is a photographic journey in Singapore – a glowing metropolis, a posh mosh pit, a meticulously arranged melting pot. Ostensibly in order and carefully crafted, the island confesses glimpses of entropy. One discovers places, groups and landscapes incongruous and inviting at once. This antithesis is explored with poetic interludes to reveal the beauty of upsetting the mundane.

UltraSuperNew is pleased to host a textual and visual interaction by poet Shivram Gopinath and photographer Panagiotis Kotsidas. The show presents 18 photographs that capture Kotsidas’ personal reflections spanning his time in Singapore. Using the images as a point of departure, Gopinath’s poetry creates a parallel dialogue that punctuates the series.

An elaboration of the show featuring supplementary poetry and images is available in the form of a limited edition book. All books and photographic prints showcased are available for sale.

Panagiotis Kotsidas is an engineer who lives and works in Singapore. Residing away from his native Greece for the past decade, he has been using his camera as a diary. His work has been shown in group exhibitions in New York and Singapore. Shivram Gopinath is a poet and spoken word artist whose work has been featured at the Singapore Writers Festival, Neon Lights, Lit Up Festival and more. He has taught at the Haque Centre of Acting and Creativity, and is the 2015 and 2016 Singapore National Poetry Slam champion.

UltraSuperNew is part creative agency, part art gallery, UltraSuperNew Singapore collaborates with, and showcases local and international contemporary artists. With roots in Harajuku, UltraSuperNew opened in October 2016 in the historic Kampong Glam area.
