Still on a high from of the 3rd edition of Spoke & Bird, the organisers behind this monthly spoken word feature are taking a running leap into their November edition, where they're featuring none other than a phenomenal international slam poet and Australian slam champion Arielle Cottingham, swinging by Singapore after featuring at the Ubud Writers' and Readers' Festival.
Afro-Latina poet, performance artist, and dancer Arielle Cottingham began performing spoken word in 2014 while studying in Melbourne. She returned to San Antonio, Texas, to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, during which time she became a regular performer at PuroSlam and The Blah Blah Blah Poetry Spot. In September 2015 she returned to Melbourne, where she began pursuing a career as a full-time performance poet and creative producer of Slamalamadingdong. She released her first chapbook, The Tarantist's Soapbox, in April 2016, and six months later she took first place at the National Championship of the Australian Poetry Slam. Her second book, Black and Ropy, was released in 2017 through Pitt Street Poetry. She currently resides in San Antonio, Texas, where she continues to write and perform.
And of course, once again they have a poetry open mic for the first 12 people who sign up. Fore more information, click on the event link provided below.
