FUNDRAISER: "A Poet Perambulates", a Fundraiser Walk by Joshua Ip (SLS)

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Joshua Yap / Ip is retiring from the public service and joining the literary charity Sing Lit Station full-time. To mark the moment, he is walking across Singapore on 11 Dec, following the 36km Coast-to-Coast (Central) trail from Coney Island to Jurong Lake, while writing poetry all the way, for about 10-12 hours, factoring in meals, breaks, and poem-writing — to raise funds for Sing Lit Station. This activity embodies his career change with: walking (because Army) + poetry (because Sing Lit) + asking you for money (because charity).

The donation rewards thus mainly involve poetry, including poems written during the walk, that will, hypothetically, be posted on Instagram every hour or so, subject to physical limits (if cannot finish during walk, will be done by year's end). (Pls opt to forgo the live writing bit if you want to give Josh a break.) This will go on all day for public entertainment, interspersed with cries for money, and also serves as a safety feature to track if Josh is alive.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a poem written for you by one of Singapore’s most obnoxious poets, while he is in physical pain. The mental exertion may even help him by distracting him from the physical pain. (Or it may just make the physical pain worse.)

Aside from torturing Josh, your donation will help Sing Lit Station do good — whether supporting migrant writers in telling their stories, sharing the gift of poetry with inmates, or giving voice to at-risk youth and marginalised communities. We also continue to develop, archive, and celebrate local stories and writers through initiatives like SingPoWriMo, poetry.sg and Book A Writer, to make this little island of ours a little bit more memorable. Come walk with us on our literary journey. (But not with Josh, he will get distracted from writing poems.)
