How can we reframe works from the perspectives of different genders?
How do we engage with the questions of genders and feminism in the context of Southeast Asia? Can we achieve this by reframing an artwork that explores the history of socio-political marginalisation of gender and gender roles, particularly of women and other sexual minorities? How do we get away from the discursive imposition of the First World feminism in the Third World context?
The notion of decolonising art history and museums can take different forms and objectives, one of which is through engaging with feminist methods and interpretive tools. Through feminist methodologies, this exercise aims to return to works made by artists who dealt with socio-cultural and political issues to generate more inclusive and intersectional approaches, voices, and narratives.
