Visualising a Story: a masterclass
with IVY NGEOW

This fiction masterclass by visiting Malaysian novelist Ivy Ngeow seeks to help participants craft a story, start to finish, using unique visual aids.

Participants can expect to be taken through the entire process of making short fiction. Aspects of creation include ideation, the creation and ordering of scenes, the fashioning of beginnings and endings, and more.

Participants are to bring writing materials with them to the masterclass. No prior reading will be required.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ivy Ngeow was born and raised in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and educated in Singapore. A graduate of the Middlesex University Writing MA programme, Ivy won the 2005 Middlesex University Press Literary Prize out of almost 1500 entrants worldwide. She has written non-fiction for Marie Claire, The Star, The New Straits Times and Wimbledon magazine. Her fiction has appeared in the Silverfish New Writing anthologies twice, The New Writer and on the BBC World Service; her story “Funny Mountain” was published by Fixi Novo in the Hungry in Ipoh anthology.

Ivy won first prize in the 1994 Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition and first prize in the 1998 Barnes and Noble Career Essay Writing competition. She was further shortlisted for the 1998 David T K Wong Fellowship and the 1999 Ian St James Award. Her debut novel, Cry of the Flying Rhino (2017), won the 2016 International Proverse Prize in Hong Kong.

Her second novel, Heart of Glass, published by Unbound, UK, was published in June 2018.
